Jaffna University Students Arrested in Jaffna reported to Civil Monitoring Commission (CivilMC) said DPF leader Mano Ganesan, convener of Civil Monitoring Commission (CivilMC)

 Jaffna University Student Union Secretary Paramalingam Dharshananth of the Art Faculty andGaneshalingam Sutharshan of the Medical Faculty have been arrested by the Jaffna police. Both have been picked up by the Police from their respective residences early as 1.30am today (01/12/12)
Also Jaffna district Kopay police have arrested Kanagasabapathy Jenami Jeyan of the Art Faculty and Shanmugam Solomon of the Art Faculty, yesterday (31/11/12) noon .
All four students, reported to have been brought to Vavuniya from Jaffna.
This is the fallout to the series of incidents occurred in last few days in Jaffna.
Army entered university student hostel on early this week and assaulted the students. The next day, a protest march of the students in vicinity of the university was also came under attack.
In this melee, a vehicle of Saravanabavan MP was damaged. And the editor of the Uthayan newspaper was physically attacked.
Students who received injuries were hospitalized at the Jaffna hospital. They came under threat by armed men while receiving treatment inside the hospital. Thus the students voluntarily returned home.
The army is accusing the students of conducting remembrance day inside Jaffna university in the last week of November.
The students maintain that they have the right to remember their fallen and dead. They also argue that JVP in the south is permitted to hold public ceremonies and large marches in the south every year in the months of April and November in remembrance of their fallen comrades who took up arms against the Srilankan state in 1971 and 1989.
