Ranil reveals the Govt tax on food

Leader of the opposition Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe says that the current Govt is the world's highly taxing Govt when it comes to food items.

He made this comment while speaking at a public meeting in Kandy.

Mr. Wickramasinghe said that the Govt is getting more profit from a tin of canned fish, than everyone who catch fish, can fish, import fish cans and sell them.

He also said that 25 Rupees are taxed from a kilo of Dhal and that 75 Rupee tax in charged from a kilo of dried fish.

Pointing out the fact that there is no Govt in the history of Sri Lanka which had put its people in to discomfort, the opposition leader said that the reason for this unbearable tax is to pay the debts taken to build useless development projects like the Mattala airport, Hambantota port and Suriya Wewa ground.
