Student Federations which have vehemently opposed the theatrical release of Vijay’s upcoming film Kaththi have announced that they would be laying siege to the actor’s residence in Chennai on the ECR Road to protest against him associating himself
with a film produced by a close friend of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse. Realizing that the film’s theatrical release might run into problems much like his earlier film Jilla and that he can’t hope to get the film released without the chief-minister’s support, Vijay was in the forefront of protesters who protested outside the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner’s office in Chennai last week for remarks against the chief-minister on a website owned by Lankan Army
It is said that Vijay is very of getting the requisite support from the government to release the film in theatres. The film’s script may have something to do with his apprehension: as per the script, there are two Vijays in it. One is the protagonist while the other is the antagonist. While the protagonist, who protests against Govt.’s policies, is abducted, the antagonist takes his place and takes the struggle forward. There are plenty of sequences against the government and its policies.
In the mean time, the students’ federation has announced that they would be laying siege to Vijay’s Neelangarai residence even if they are denied permission by the police to do so. In order to avert such a situation, director A.R. Murugadoss is said to be planning to meet the protesting students and ‘explain’ to them about the backdrop of the producer. Whether or not the students listen to him and agree to abandon the protest would be known in the next few days!
