Typhoon Haiyan: Death toll crosses over 5,000 in Philippines

The death toll from this month's Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines has spiked to 5,209, the government-run Philippines News Agency reported, citing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
That's a significant increase from recent counts. On Thursday, the toll stood at slightly more than 4,000. CNN IBN reported that the number of injured was at 23,404 Friday, with 1,582 still missing, PNA reported. The monster storm left behind a catastrophic scene after it made landfall on six Philippine islands on November 8, leaving many without immediate access to food and medical care. It flattened some communities and displaced about 3 million people.
