It might sound unbelievable but it is true. The audio-rights of Vijay’s upcoming film Kaththi, whose theatrical release during Deepavali has been strongly opposed by students and Tamil activists on the premise that the film has been produced by business partners of Lankan president Rajapakse, haven’t been bagged by any music company.
Sony Music is said to have entered into an agreement with the producer some time back to bag the music rights of Kaththi at a cost of Rs.1.5 crores. However, as it realized that the film’s release might run into huge trouble in the coming days, Sony backed out of the deal. Watching Sony, a leader in music industry, backing out, no other firm is said to have made an effort to bag the film’s audio rights.
Sources close to the crew of Kaththi say that the ‘syndicate’ which controls the music industry is said to have sent a word ‘out’ to other firms not to attempt to bag the audio rights of Kaththi whose theatrical release appears to be getting very difficult with each passing day.
When queried, leading music companies said on condition of anonymity that they didn’t want to be seen as ‘opposing’ the powers-that-be in the State as they had to take care of their survival.
