Popular Tamil Director Arrested For Smuggling, Idols Worth 80 Crores Recovered

Popular director and producer V Sekhar, the man behind valuable movies like Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmai  and Viralukketha Veekkam, has been arrested for smuggling idols of Hindu deities worth over 80 crore rupees. Police force responsible for the arrest has revealed that the filmmaker had
smuggled 8 'Panchaloha' idols in addition to providing shelter for men involved in the murky business, according to a report by Times of India. A special police team is now on the lookout for 11 other men, who according to them, are involved in the illegal trade. Sekhar is currently cooling his heels in the Puzhal central prison after being arrested from his residence in K.K. Nagar where the idols were stacked. The wheel was set in motion when 8 such idols were stolen from several temples across Tamil Nadu a few months back. When the probe led to the arrest of Dhanalingam, a production manager, several others involved in the racket were exposed including famed director V Sekhar. His arrest has come across as a shocker to many movie buffs and celebrities since the 55 year old is known for delivering social messages through his movies. Well, it looks like the messages are strictly for his audience.

Viralukketha Veekkam Starring Livingston, Vadivelu, Vivek, Kushboo, Kovai Sarala and Kanaka in lead roles, this 1999 family drama talks about the value of restraining human emotions like greed to lead a happy and more importantly peaceful life. How ironic?

Varavu Ettana Selavu Pathana This film yet again narrates the story of an honest man who falls prey to materialism and chooses an illegal path to lead a lavish life. Did the director take a leaf out of his own film? If he has, he has got it all wrong.

Kaalam Maari Pochu This 1996 flick is another family drama which narrates the importance of relationships over money. It also talks about the then Indian mentality of cherishing a male child more than its female counterpart.

Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmai Yet again stressing on the importance of human values and relationships, this film narrates the story of a greedy brother, blinded by the glitz money can provide. The film has Nassar, Kushboo, Karan, Roja, Vadivelu and Kovai Sarala in lead roles.

Veettoda Mappillai Released in 2001, this film stars Napoleon and Roja in lead roles and talks about the generosity of a man who helps his sister in laws lead happy lives.
