Tissa Attanayake, the General Secretary of the United National Party has submitted his resignation letter to the Party President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
But, however, According to the Member of the Parliament Lakshman Kiriella, the Party President Ranil Wickramasinghe has refused to accept the resignation letter of Tissa Attanayake.
But, so far the reason for submitting the resignation letter by Tissa Attanayake is not known to anybody.
Tissa Attanayake is the Parliament Member of the Candy district and also he is the General Secretary of the United National Party, his resignation at this point of time is a great surprise to everyone.
According to the sources, he is going to join along with Mahinda Rajapaksa during the Presidential Election in support of the President. General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake, MP, tended his letter of resignation to party leader Ranil Wickramaginghe, this morning. Attanayake has stepped down from the General Secretary post and all the other positions he held in the party.
Attanayake will assist President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming Presidential election in next year January, and a source close to the government added that Attanayake will participate for a press conference to announce his decision on this regard, this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the source added that former General Secretary of the UNP will likely to be appointed as the Health Minister, which was the Ministry headed by the defected ex-General secretary of the UPFA.
Tissa joins the government -President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa a short while ago said that UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has joined the government.
President Rajapaksa made this announcement after handing over his nominations at Elections Secretariat.
