More than a decade back, no other hero except Kamal Haasan and superstar Rajinikanth managed to get Re.1 crore as fee per film. However, the trend is very different today as most of the frontline heroes get somewhere between Rs.20 to Rs.40 crores, even though they won’t feel comfortable revealing in public the exact sum.
The fee of heroines in Tamil films has also grown by leaps and bounds, it is reported. Let’s now look at what the leading heroines in Kollywood are paid by their producers.
Nayantara: Probably the first actress in Tamil to breach the Re.1 crore mark in Tamil films, Nayan was paid the sum when she appeared in bikini in Ajith’s Billa a few years back. Successive hits in Raja Rani, Arrambam, Idhu Kathirvelan Kaadhal and Anamika have upped her fee to Rs.2 crores. She is reportedly paidRs.2.5 crores for starring in Pandiraj’s Idhu Namma Aalu opposite ex-flame Simbu.
Anushka: Upcoming films opposite superstar Rajinikanth (Lingaa) and Ajith (Gautham Menon’s untitled film) have upped Anushka’s market value. She also has two heroine-oriented films in Tamil-Telugu in Baahubali and Rudhramadevi for which she is said to have been paid Rs.1.5 crores. Anushka is making hay while the Sun shines as she is entering the mid-thirties now.
Hansika: The ‘toast of Kollywood’ that she is, the ‘Khushboo II’ has been gaining from strength to strength. Hansika has taken rapid strides towards stardom ever since she debuted three years back in Kollywood. Hansika gets Rs.2 crores per film in Telugu and Rs.1.5 crores per film in Tamil. She has also reportedly turned co-producer of her upcoming Sundar C-directed Aambala opposite Vishal. She also has the magnanimity of spending for orphaned children, a highly appreciable trait in an actress.
Samantha: The literally unknown entity of Moscowin Kaveri and Baana Kathadi hit big time with Rajamouli’s Naan Ee & Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Neethane En Ponvasantham and has continued to charm Tamil fans. Anjaan opposite Suriya has given her the most elusive hit in her career for which she was paid Re.1 crore. With film opposite Vijay scheduled to release (will it?), Samantha is in for an enjoyable time in Kollywood.
Shruti Haasan: The stunning Shruti, who has made it to the list of frontline actresses in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films by her sheer hardwork and dedication. For her comeback film in Tamil, Poojai opposite Vishal, she is said to have been paid Re.1 crore.
Lakshmi Menon, Priya Anand and Sri Divya are among the actresses on the fast lane. While Lakshmi and Priya have crossed the Rs.50 lakhs barrier per film, Divya might soon enter the ‘Re.1 corre’ club. Trisha, who has been around for more than a decade now and can only hope to be paired opposite ‘senior heroes’, is getting somewhere around Rs.70-85 lakhs perfilm. Andrea Jeremiah, the playback singer-actress, is struggling to touch the Rs.50 lakh mark per film.
