Protest stage on demanding to investigate on disappeared people in SL: TNPF supports protesters


To win the attention of Navaneetham Pillay, Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Council, protest stage in front on the Jaffna library this morning on demanding to hold investigations on disappeared people, release
political prisoners and former LTTE members in the rehabilitation centers, stop land accusation carried out by the Lankan government and army in Tamil areas.

Tamil National People’s Front cast its support for this protest. Leader of the front Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, general secretary Selvaraasa Ganjendran, former leader Chinaththurai Waradaraasan, president of the All Island Tamil Congress E.A.Anandaraasa and party supporters were present at this protest.

This protest was organised by the movement of disappeared people. More than thousand protesters were present at this protest campaign.

People gathered in front of the Munniyappar koviladi at 10.00 am this morning and later on they marched up to the Jaffna public library.



Police officers took measures stop these protesters.

However Lankan government officials did not allow commissioner to meet up these protesters.

During the time of protest 15 individuals including member of movement of the disappeared people Mrs.Aanandhi Elizan, member of Mannar peoples movement Rev.Fr.Sebamaalai, Rev.Fr.Nerhu,Sun visited the UNHRC office at Nallur and hold discussions with Navaneetham Pillay.
During the time of meeting commissioner promised to pay special attention on human rights issues in 
SriLanka.
