The complaints unit of the Elections Secretariat says it has received a total of 173 complaints regarding the upcoming election in the Northern, Central and North Western provinces, with a majority of them coming
from the Kurunegala District.
The number of complaints received from the Kurunegala District alone has reached 38 so far, as election violence continues to escalate in the district which boasts several leading candidates.
In comparison only 28 and 20 complaints have been received from Matale and Kandy districts respectively, the election complaints unit said.
The least number of complaints are reported from Mannar and Vavuniya districts.
The Elections Secretariat said that out of the total number of complaints received so far 157 are pertaining to violations of election laws while the rest concern acts of violence.
