Final discussion to finalize the draft of US resolution against Sri lanka today in Geneva

The final discussion to finalize the draft of US resolution against Sri Lanka proposed to submit at the UN Council sessions is held today in Geneva, according to European time between 4.00 to 6.00 p.m.

Membership countries of UN Council, delegates from human rights movements, representatives from non-governmental organization including many sectors will be attending this session to take a final decision.

Reports states, some wordings which were already used in the draft will be amended on the preparation of the final draft of US resolution which would be submitted against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka government is carrying out discussions with US for a compromise in the intention of acquiring support from most of the countries, and there is more possibilities for the usage of introducing mild wordings instead of the existing strong wordings, is the information catered by the Special Correspondent to from Geneva.

It is much expected that the resolution brought against Sri Lanka would be finalized today evening and will be submitted tomorrow (14.03.2013) at the United Nation Human Rights Commission session.

 Reports circulate that India will vote in support of the resolution submitted tomorrow, Africa, Latin American countries and the western countries which are membership countries of Human Rights Council and  Northern American countries in support of US will vote backing the resolution.

Meanwhile an atmosphere is currently prevailing in Geneva, that due to the oppose activities of Sinhala Buddhist Chauvinistic elements against Muslims which is occurring in the recent times, and the consequences will be that these countries will not partake at the voting.

The proposal issued to the United Nation Council membership countries against Sri Lanka, is contrary to the fundamental agreement of Untied Nation was said by Sri Lanka High Commissioner for Geneva Ravinath Ariyasinghe.

He said, this proposal may be an absolute example, but for the development countries will cause short-and long-term impact.

An unofficial discussion was held last Friday concerning the resolution brought against Sri Lanka at the United Nation Human Rights Commission.

High Commissioner said, in view of the concern towards Sri Lanka by the membership countries of the Human Rights Council and sectors, that he attended the discussion, however the system adopted is a political act against fundamental.

The Ambassador has submitted recommendations deviating her authority concerning to the resolution submitted and implemented by US in year 2012, was said by High Commissioner.
